Hi awesome reader and welcome back to this months newsletter

Latest news

Autumn is in "fall" swing and I'm working hard on a new project whilst the finishing touches go on the second instalment of the Stone Devils series. A story inspired by a poem which I wrote whilst out on a blustery day, where leaves fell and more importantly my son and I could collect conkers. I thought I would share it with you below as you haven't had an opportunity to read my creative work in a little while now. I hope you enjoy and stay tuned for the release date of Devils At The Gate.

Birthed in the spring, forged in the summer heat and tempered in the autumn winds in the year of our Lord 2025.

Following its tumultuous tumbling fall to the ground its case cracked to reveal the ultimate armament.

One which with only the keenest of workmanship can be crafted to break nay destroy its opponents. Leaving them obsolete and flaccid.

Opponents made of the same but not the same for no two are made equal.

To wield such a thing is to put yourself in the forefront of battle, to risk it all.

To challenge it you put yourself at the whim of its mercy, but is that not the game, nay the life we have chosen.

Select yours from the heap beneath palm shaped leaves, enjoy the dappled sunlight for to proceed is to take up the fight and to become a warrior, a knight of Autumn and possibly a King by winter.

The boy soldier raises his string, pulled taut with the weight.

His ephemeral nemesis raises theirs.

There are hard knocks, bruised knuckles, bite upon bite until the victor is found.

One string remains taut, one floats upon the cold breeze where leaves fall on a a crisp autumn day.

  • Ode to a conker.

What I’m reading/listening to

Recently, I have been indulging in some Dean Kootz, his novel The Forest of Lost Souls which is a tale about lost love, revenge and justice as a small town is taken over by a technology conglomerate. As the money flows so does corruption which lead to one woman, who has an affinity with animals to look for justice.

I have been a fan of Kootz for a while, in particular enjoying his well known novel, Watchers. A great story about a highly intelligent dog which escapes a testing facility along with a vicious killer mutant.

Both are really worth a read/listen.
